流媒体应用服务质量与网络性能相关性研究

摘 要

随着4G网络和无线网络技术的发展,手机、平板等客户端连接网络的速度越来越快,人们对移动端的流媒体应用,尤其是视频应用的需求也越来越大。国内外各种移动端视频软件种类繁多,受众较多的如YouTube、优酷、爱奇艺、腾讯等。其中YouTube和优酷等服务商使用的是基于HTTP协议的流媒体协议。如何分析与评价基于HTTP协议的移动端视频应用的用户体验质量(QoE)已经成为学术界和产业界共同关注的问题。观看视频过程中的网络性能作为用户最容易关注的一个重要因素,无疑对QoE有着相当大的影响。本文以移动端的优酷视频播放器为研究对象,分析了移动端视频的用户体验质量与网络性能的相关性。

本文首先介绍了目前学术界对QoE的研究现状及一些评价方法,介绍了一种利用视频播放状态对QoE进行评价的方法,并对其进行了优化。同时介绍了网络性能的测量方法,着重介绍了流速、传输丢包率和往返时延这三个性能参数。为了能够根据客户端的播放特征给出客观的QoE值,必须实时监测视频播放过程中的视频质量、初始缓冲、重缓冲等特征,因此在论文工作中在Android平台上开发了VMOSMonitor系统,对用户观看优酷视频的QoE进行监测与计算,同时分析视频播放过程中的网络性能,提取相关参数。通过对计算出的QoE及获取的网络性能参数的统计与分析,对流媒体应用的服务质量与网络性能的相关性进行分析。

最终得到网络性能越好,流媒体应用服务质量越高这一结论的。根据这个结论,本文给视频应用提供商和网络服务提供商针对如何提高用户的体验质量提出了相关建议。

Research on the Relationship between the Service Quality of Streaming Media Application and Network Performance

Abstract

With the development of the 4th Generation mobile communication technology and wireless local area networks, it is getting faster and faster for people to surf the internet by mobile phone and tablet. People’s demand for streaming media applications, especially video applications is also increasing significantly. Nowadays, there are some domestic and international mobile video software, such as YouTube, Youku, iQIYI, Tencent Video, etc. The analysis and evaluation of the user experience quality for mobile video application based on HTTP protocol has become a common concern of academia and industry. Network performance no doubt has a considerable impact on the QoE while people are watching the video. Besides, it also attracts user's most easy attention. Taking Youku Android Player as an example, this paper do a research on the relationship between the service quality of streaming media application and network performance.

Firstly, this paper introduces the current research condition and some evaluation methods of QoE. Then an evaluation method which evaluates the QoE by video play condition is introduced. Also, this paper improves this method by taking video quality into consideration. Then, the measurement method of network performance is introduced. This paper mainly discusses the flow rate of the network, round trip time and packet loss rate of transmission. In order to give an objective QoE value according to the client playback features, initial buffering, video quality , re-buffering and other characteristics must be real-time monitored through video play time. Therefore, a VMOSMonitor system is designed on the Android platform by this paper to monitor the QoE while user is watching a Youku video. At the same time, the three parameters of network performance are calculated. Based on the analysis of QoE and three network performance parameters, the relationship between the service quality of the streaming media application and the network performance is analyzed.

Finally, this paper draws the conclusion that the better the network performance is, the higher the quality of streaming media applications is. According to this conclusion, this paper puts forward some suggestions on how to improve the quality of user experience for video application providers and network service providers.
