三美论在中国古诗翻译中的运用—以许渊冲英译唐诗《送孟浩然之广陵》为例

摘 要

中国古诗有着三千年的历史,是中华民族文化的瑰宝,而唐诗更是瑰宝中的精华,它是意音形三者的和谐统一。尽管翻译界认为翻译诗词难,中国古诗词的英译更难,经过长期的翻译实践活动,许渊冲提出了“三美论”,即意美、音美和形美。三美论在翻译界被认为是诗歌翻译的最高境界和标准。本文旨在三种英译唐诗lt;lt;黄鹤楼送孟浩然之广陵gt;gt;版本为对象,分析研究其诗歌翻译中“意美、音美、形美”的具体表现,为译者从事翻译活动和读者欣赏翻译作品提供一个更好的视角-从三美论角度解读中国古诗的英译。

论文第一部分是文献综述。文献综述部分首先介绍了中国古诗词英译的理论研究,其次介绍了lt;lt;黄鹤楼送孟浩然之广陵gt;gt;的英译状况。第二部分是对lt;lt;黄鹤楼送孟浩然之广陵gt;gt;这首诗不同英译版本的对比研究。该部分选取了选取了该首诗的三个不同译本来具体分析三美在这些译本中的体现。最后,本论文从三美论角度为英译中国古诗提出一些建议。

  1. Introduction

It has long been believed that poetry is words in best order, however, classical Chinese poetry is the best words in the best order. Poetry, particularly the classical Chinese poetry, not only has characteristics of art but also qualities of art which combines sound, form and sense wonderfully. Classical Chinese poetry show us a fascinating world of great enchantment, intensive affection and profound meaning. In this world, readers can even smell the fresh fragrance of flowers given out from the lines of the poetry. With a long history of three thousand years, it is the gem of Chinese culture and civilization. Now that wonderful things need wonderful broadcast ways, otherwise they will not be anything, to make classical Chinese poetry go farther and get more welcome around the world demands of good translation of it.

How to translate the Chinese poetry into foreign language with the preservation of its original enchantment to the greatest extent? Answers to this question vary from translators to translators and there are three major schools on poetry translation from Chinese to English: metrical verse school, free verse school and prose school. Xu Yuanchong is a member of metrical verse school and he thinks that a poetry translator should be far from satisfied with the mere conveying of the ideas in the original, and must push for the recreation and reproduction of the original beauty in sense ,sound and form. By this way, a translation version can best convey the musical and artistic beauty of the original to the foreign readers. Through a long-term interpreting process of constantly exploring and practicing, Three Beauties Theory becomes a theory which is significant in translation circle.

Taking different versions of the English translation of Huang Helou Song Meng Haoran Zhi Guang Ling as examples, this paper aims at showing the advantages of Three Beauties Theory in translating classical Chinese poetry by analyzing and studying the embodiment of three beauties in these versions, so that this paper can make translator translate classical Chinese poetry from a better perspective, and the readers can appreciate the translation in a better way.

To translate the classical Chinese poetry in a better way, many translators have bent themselves to the translation activities from which theories of translating classical Chinese poetry are refined.
