Abstract: Translation is a bridge of linking different languages and cultures in the interlingual communication. And it is a transformation of one language into another on the basis first of faithfulness then of accuracy and fluency. But cultural differences barricade communications between different languages, and influence the alternatives of the translation strategies to some extent. So, it is very essential to fully understand the culture and ideology within and beyond the source language itself before translation. This paper presents a value-oriented discussion and its influence of cultural differences on translation.

Faithfulness has dual meanings, requiring the translation must be faithful to both the content and the form or expression in the source text so that the target-text readers understand the translated. For one thing, the content in the source text must be fully and accurately presented maximally with no falsifications, distortions or casual omissions; and for another, the form in the source text must be maximally identical to the target text either in genre or in style[1]. In fact, there are so many factors that influence the quality of translation. F. Boas, a famous human linguist, said, “Language reflects culture, and culture determines language and its form. Language is a part of culture and plays an important role in culture. Every society has its own unique culture; just because of this, each of them has its own customs, habits, faiths and social structures.”[2] Though an objective existence, culture phenomenon is expressed in a subjective way. Therefore, translation between two languages will with no doubt be influenced by value orientation.

However, values vary from nations to nations resulting from the differences of histories, geographical environments, religions, folklore and culture background. And the formal communications between countries or people must be on the basis of respecting cultural customs and backgrounds. Thus,
